A consistent approach to safety
The FPC will champion health and safety standards across the road planing
industry. At the heart of our work is a clear commitment to help ensure that
safe and appropriate manning levels are consistently followed. This approach
will ensure that all operatives can work in a safe environment and is designed
to meet the requirements now demanded by many major contractors.

A clear commitment to training
The planing industry has an ageing workforce and failure to attract young,
well-trained new recruits will jeopardise the long-term future of the industry.
The planing sector currently does not possess a recognised training
qualification, and this is issue which must be addressed. The FPC has a
long-term aim to work with a third party to develop and launch an accepted NVQ
training programme. This would set a new benchmark for training and ensure that
there is a recognised career path for a greater number of industry recruits.
A louder voice amongst government and industry stakeholders
The road planing industry must gain a significant voice within the construction
industry and with policymakers in order to lobby for positive change. As well as
being at the forefront of understanding new legislation, the FPC aims to work
with government bodies to encourage the re-classification of road planings from
a waste product to a secondary aggregate. |
